Recently, I witnessed a remarkable example of God’s attention to detail through one of our sponsor families. Olivia, who grew up in a family that sponsored ChildHope children, is now continuing that legacy with her young son Owen.

Her parents used sponsorship to teach compassion for those in need and share the Good News of Jesus Christ — values Olivia is now passing on to the next generation.
Through our sponsorship program, Olivia and Owen were matched with a student in Costa Rica who, amazingly, is also named Owen. Even more remarkably, these two boys were born just two days apart!
As Palms reminds us, “Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act.” This divine orchestration reminds us that while some sponsors choose children based on photos, age, or country, ultimately the Holy Spirit guides these precious connections.
Olivia and I are friends, so I was able to arrange a video call between Owen and Owen — and what a delight this was for everyone involved! The two boys chatted away about things they had in common: sports, school, pets —

Owen in Costa Rica was thrilled to see Owen in Portland’s dog on the video, and Owen in Portland was impressed with Owen in Costa Rica’s ChildHope classroom, where the call took place …

It was all a lovely illustration of how the Holy Spirit orchestrates divine connections like this … and like the connection between our sponsors and the children they sponsor.
Faithful sponsorship provides so much! Through it, sponsored child receives daily nutrition, access to compassionate teachers, and a scholarship for a quality education steeped in Christian values.
And even beyond these material benefits, sponsors are sharing the love of Jesus with a child daily, showing they are loved and valued. Their prayers, letters, and consistent support create a meaningful connection that can transform a young life.
As our schools throughout Latin America and the Caribbean begin their new academic year, we have a tremendous opportunity.
“ChildHope transforms the lives of children born into poverty.” I say this often! And I’m more convinced of it than ever. But right now, 4,179 children are waiting and hoping for sponsors so they can attend school.
In faith, we often allow children to enroll before all funding is secured, trusting that God will move in hearts like yours to provide the scholarships they need.
Would you prayerfully consider expanding your impact by sponsoring a child or another child today?
Or perhaps you know friends or family members who would be blessed by sponsoring a child of their own. Please forward this website to them.
Every time I visit our schools, I’m moved by the tangible difference sponsors like you make. Children who once had limited opportunities are now dreaming big dreams, growing in their faith, and receiving the tools they need to break the cycle of poverty.
Partnership matters to us. Sponsors like you are extending the loving hands of Christ in compassion to children in need, and what a difference they make. We are so thankful!
For the children,
Mary Kathleen Mahon
