Matthew 7:7-12 (click to view Scripture below)

Rudy was a little boy who was getting sicker by the day. He could no longer attend his ChildHope school on the shores of the Caribbean. His mother took him to the doctor and an x-ray showed Rudy’s lungs were filled with cancer. But Rudy’s second grade class had been reading about the healing power of God. The class teacher asked the children to pray for Rudy’s healing. It was not a one-time prayer. There was a prayer meeting by that class every day for months. As the days went on, Rudy’s mom began to see an improvement and took Rudy back to the doctor. When the first x-ray, taken months earlier, was compared with the new x-ray, the doctors were astounded that Rudy’s lungs were completely clear.

Our reading today clearly teaches, God always answers prayer: in His way and with wisdom and love. It also teaches persistence in prayer, for things we believe are worth praying for. Rudy’s health required nothing less than the healing power of Jesus Christ. Rudy’s class had no one they could trust, but Jesus, to answer their prayers for the healing of their classmate.

Prayer: Lord, we believe in you, but help our unbelieving moments. Help us to persist like Rudy’s classmates!

Matthew 7:7-12 (ESV)

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. Or which one of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? 11 If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!

12 “So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.
